As President of the Software Productivity Center (SPC), Geoff Hewson is responsible for championing the company's long-term mission of enabling people and businesses throughout the world to realize the full potential of their software development processes, technologies and teams. Geoff also oversees the service delivery division of SPC, ensuring service excellence, and maintaining key relationships with clients and partners. As co-owner of SPC (along with CEO Doug Muir) Geoff is also responsible for overseeing the company's core direction and market leadership position.
Geoff currently maintains the responsibilities he earlier discharged as Chief Knowledge Officer; namely, overall thought leadership behind SPC's service offerings and research initiatives.
During his five years with SPC, Geoff has directed numerous consulting projects, where his focus has been on estimation methodologies, requirements and use cases, Agile project management, and publication and deployment of software process improvement solutions. Engagements have included spearheading a multi-phase, multi-country software process improvement initiative for a leading micro-processor manufacturer, developing new material for the Rational Unified Process Methodology, integrating Essential Set into the enterprise change management product line for Merant (now Serena Software Inc.), and integrating Estimate Professional into Borland's Caliber Requirements Management solution. Geoff also has oversight responsibility for all active consulting projects, which typically run 6 – 10 at any time.
Geoff's 20+ years in IT have included senior positions with Microsoft (where he contributed to the Microsoft Solutions Framework), Ford Motor Company and the Canadian Federal Government. His has successfully consulted on major IT initiatives within Canada, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Geoff brings to SPC a personal commitment towards client success in aligning the right people, processes and tools to help companies get the absolute best business value from their software departments. A recognized industry expert, Geoff has enabled small, medium and large companies to improve their product quality, delivery cycles, and client satisfaction. As Geoff states, "The commitment that SPC brings to all client projects is to ensure that our interactions with our customers generate real and measurable benefits as early as possible."
Knowledgeable in all the leading standards such as CMMI and IEEE, and methodologies including RUP, Agile, and ISO 9000, Geoff is a co-founder of Agile Vancouver, and has spoken at numerous industry conferences across North America. Geoff is also a guest lecturer for Simon Fraser University's Computer Sciences program.
Geoff holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Sheffield, UK.
